Ground Situation Awareness (gsa): Information fusion for rapid decision making in network-based systems

The goal of the information fusion research within ground situation awareness is to increase the situation awareness by adding automatic and semi-automatic fusion processes at level 2 and 3 of the JDL-model. Another expected outcome is prototypes and demonstrators (or software components) which will be used to demonstrate the usefulness of the information fusion approach within the ground situation awareness area.

The focus for this scenario is information fusion for ground situation awareness. It involves sensor systems and simulation, and deals with robust sensor fusion, mobility, and fuzzy decision-making. Situation awareness is a complex high-level task that is unlikely to be fully automated, but suitable for rapid decision-making.

The overall plan for this scenario is to focus on three main problems. These problems will be addressed by three new PhD-students (fully funded by the KK-foundation) who are expected to finish within the project period for the information fusion profile (2005-2011). The problems will also be addressed by two additional industrial PhD-students (funded bySaab Microwave Systems) who also will finish within the project period. In addition to this, at least five other people (from both industry and academia) will work on these problems.
